My house smells fresh & clean right now because I just took a crack at making my own Laundry Detergent.
Here's what you need to make your own:
1. 1 (4 lb, 12 oz) box of Borax
2. 1 (3lb 7oz) box Washing Soda
3. 1 (3 lb) container Oxyclean
4. 2 (14.1 oz) bars Sunlight soap (recipe called for Zote or Fels Naptha but that wasn't available to me)
5. 1 (4lb) box Baking Soda
6. 1-2 bottles Purex Crystals Fabric Softener (or brand of choice)
Directions:
1. Grate soap with a fine cheese grater (I used food processor because it was much faster)
2. Mix all ingredients in a tub or bucket
3. Use 2-4 tbsp. per load
I'm also going to try making Dishwasher Detergent.
You'll need:
1. 2 cups Washing Soda
2. 1/2 cup Borax
3. 1/4 cup Kosher Salt
4. 1/4 cup Citric Acid (you can find in the vitamins isle)
5. Sprinkle of rice
Directions:
Mix all ingredients and use 1 tbsp. per dishwasher load. *Note: the sprinkle of rice is to help keep it from clumping. I didn't add it yet, but I will if I find I need to.
For a rinse agent, fill compartment with vinegar.
I'm really hoping we like both of these. They are so simple to make and in the end, will be much cheaper than store bought. I do know that many of my family & friends have tried these or are still currently use them, so I'm excited to give it a whirl.
