20 Weeks

YIPPEE....we are half way there!!!!

The past few weeks have flown by and I'm sure the next month or so will as well. We are developing our basement and making a room for Rhonda's office, to free up a room upstairs for babies nursery. A couple of weekends ago Rhonda's parents came to help us begin the project. (((THANK YOU))) They started us out by framing the entire basement which has added a lot of usable space to our daily living. Well, not quite yet, but it will once it's done. We now have a bedroom (which will be Rhonda's office) with a closet, a sizable bathroom (which will have a toilet, large vanity and shower), a rumpus room (which will have a built in bench on one entire side and a craft area for me on the other side), enclosed storage space under the stairs and also a laundry/furnace room. Because our house is pretty small for the amount of people/animals that live here, plus the fact that both of us work from home, the basement will be a much used space. We are very excited!!

After framing, Rhonda did all of the electrical, with my help. I completely have no clue about electrical so all I could do was be the go-fer. I'm told the go-fer is an important position so at least I don't feel completely useless. Both the framing and the electrical inspections were done this week and we passed!! I posted on facebook last week that my wife was smart and after inspections, it proves it. The guy who was here to inspect the electrical told her she should be an electrician because she did such a fantastic job. I think it's awesome that a pregnant woman accomplished all that she did and the inspector never implied that her "husband" did the work. In fact, it turned into a very funny story. I was upstairs with 3 of the daycare kids and when the guy was done inspection he asked the 6 year old, Laine, if she had ever been given a golden star at school and that her "mommy" (meaning Rhonda) should be given a golden star for what she had done. Laine didn't say anything and we didn't correct him that these weren't our kids, just because it was easier. We did laugh about it afterwards though.

This weekends project is to insulate and poly the basement so we can prepare for the drywall stage next weekend. My brother Chris will be coming to help us with the heavy work, so that'll be nice. And after that, it's on to taping, mudding and then painting. It's great that we are people who like to finish a project once we start. In no time we'll have our basement in usable condition. It's very exciting!!

In Mommy news, Rhonda is doing great. The past day or so she's had some uncomfortable stretching feeling in the lower part of her stomach, which is absolutely normal. Her body is just making room for baby!! But other than that she's been feeling good and has been keeping active with all of the work we're doing in the basement. I'm very proud of her for what she's done! It's more than most not-pregnant women would ever consider doing. And I've certainly met pregnant women who feel they can't do anything at all. Rhonda is not one of those people.

Have a great weekend everyone!!
