So before you ditch the idea of joining me in this challenge, let me explain why I'm choosing to do this, what the benefits will be and why I feel like it's a good idea for you to take part with me.
- I hate carpet but this house came with it on the stairs and the entire upstairs, so to replace would be more that we want to spend. I don't vacuum as often as I should, and I'm sure you're guilty of it as well. Doing the stairs sucks so I often put it off until I just can't stand it anymore. Did I mention that I hate carpet?
- The less you vacuum your carpets, the shorter lifespan they have. Makes sense. The more dirt and grime that breaks down in your carpets, the harder it is on them. So vacuuming every day for 30 days will get them cleaner and cleaner and cleaner.
- Vacuuming will help reduce allergies in your home. Vacuuming every day for 30 days will really make a huge difference!!
- Bacteria and fungus live in your carpet! Our daughter plays on the stairs landing most of the day now so removing as much bacteria and fungus is beneficial to her health.
- My house will smell better! Especially the office where the dogs and cats spend a good portion of their day. It smells like pets and I want that smell gone.
- We take pride in our home so doing this 30 day challenge to make our carpets cleaner, the air cleaner and rid of any stains and smells, will show just how much we care about where we live.
- To get rid of the excess pet hair. Our dogs don't shed but our cats do and it seems like I can never get rid of all of the hair.
Today I started my challenge by doing some complete room carpet cleaning and spot cleaning in areas that needed a little extra attention. I have a Bissell Little Green which was great for stairs but trickier for larger rooms. I managed and it looks and smells better already!! I'm already loving the results. Tomorrow I will finish the last two rooms and continue forward with the Vacuum challenge.
I opted to not use chemical cleaner for my carpets but instead made my own version using vinegar, a few drops of dish soap (not too much or it becomes super sudsy), a sprinkle of Oxyclean and if you have it, you can add a few drops of fabric softener or your own essential oils. I did neither of the last two ingredients and loved the results. It smells clean; not like perfume.
So will you join me?
You are brave to tackle this one. As much as I would like to say I would try, I know I'm not quite there yet. Alas, once Spencer gets a little mobile I might want to get on that, currently we have a few too many things cluttering our carpets.
