Rhonda & I were living in Houston when Hurricane Ike hit. It was the one and only time we had ever been part of such a huge devastation and we were completely caught up, which was understandable. I remember the moment the power went out, the wind picked up to intense speeds and the mass disaster happened in the pitch black of the night. We woke up to sights we couldn't even imagine, lives were lost, damage was everywhere and the effects surrounded the areas for longer than anyone would ever have hoped. Our family in Canada were worried about us as they watched the events unfold on the news. We were lucky to have our power back on the morning after and from that moment on, we were glued to the TV. We watched for an endless number of hours and as time went on, we realized that depression and negativity started to take over. It was then that we made the conscious decision to turn off the TV and stop focusing on what had just happened. It wasn't good for us and we needed to find positive energy in the middle of a negative situation. Best decision ever.
Since then, we have chosen to stop watching every news piece available. The most we do is stay caught up on current events, but we find it's just too draining to watch and read everything out there.
Maintaining a positive energy can be a difficult thing, especially when your friends are sharing negative headlines (especially on Facebook). One thing to remember is that you hold your own power of positivity. Scroll on by and find things that energize and uplift you. It really is that simple. Deciding to run your life on positive energy, despite what others are sharing, is like making a decision to be happy, successful, abundant and peaceful. Once you decide to be positive you won’t need to listen to the news headlines because their version of the world no longer applies to you.
Negativity is magnetic and the more you focus on it, the more it attracts. When an event happens and you find yourself getting caught up in the negative emotion of it, think about who it's helping. Is this negative emotion helping you? Is this negative emotion helping the person or situation involved? The answer is no, so this is the time to step back and move away for the good of everyone and everything involved. You are the only one who decides how much control it has over you.
Keeping up on current events is important but maintaining a healthy life for yourself, your family and your friends is even more important. You live with the effects of your feelings and emotions and they control every aspect of your life. Keep them positive and let that positivity shine. Let it inspire others and encourage them to lead this same lifestyle.
Positivity does our World a whole lot of good!!
