Listen

Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they're big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.

I just love this quote and believe it to be true. A part of being a good parent is listening. It's not your goal to be their best friend but it is your goal to be their best mother or father. Being a part of their life and opening the lines of communication when they are little will help to ensure those same things continue through childhood, the teenage years and into their adult life. This one little word, "listen," can build an amazing relationship for you and your child.
